Milan, Via Schievano Massacre. Three policemen were killed by the Red Brigades (Walter Alasia Column) who wanted to “welcome” General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, who had just been transferred to Milan to command the Pastrengo Division. The victims were on duty at the Porta Ticinese police station of the Milan Police Headquarters. The Red Brigades, armed with machine guns, aboard a white Fiat 128 followed a Fiat Ritmo used as an unmarked car by the Police, which was on a patrol round and, taking advantage of the morning traffic, opened fire in the city centre, killing Corporal Antonio Cestari (50 years old) and officers Rocco Santoro (32) and Michele Tatulli (25) in Via Schievano. According to the prosecution, Nicolò De Maria was driving the car at the time of the trial, while Barbara Balzerani, Mario Moretti and Nicola Gianicola opened fire on the police forces, who were hit in the back and killed instantly. To remember the victims, the municipality of Milan placed a plaque in their honor on the aforementioned street.
