Stalingrad. A dozen groups of Germans manage to escape through the Red Army’s clutches. Most are captured in the countryside. However, one priest, Father Hering, a medical assistant, manages to escape Stalingrad with a hundred or so compatriots, reaching a German garrison, where he is found guilty of disobedience by a court martial. He ends up in a concentration camp, where he is liberated by the Americans in 1945.
