Thomas Alva Edison registers his second patent: the Teleprinter for stockbrokers. He also boldly decides to open his own stock exchange listing office, just above that of the Gold & Stock Reporting Telegraph Company, a well-established firm. But Boston soon proves too small and provincial for Edison’s boundless ambition, and he soon moves to New York.
