United States. Niels Bohr announces the discovery of uranium fission. Physicists are astonished, and many rush to their laboratories, still in their evening suits, to repeat Otto Hahn’s experiment. Within a few days, an unspecified number of uranium atoms are split in various locations across the United States. Within a few months, hundreds of articles on the subject are published.
