Battle of Canolo, in the lower Reggio Emilia area. During the night, partisan commanders Guerrino Cavazzoni (Ciro), Renato Bolondi (Maggi), Mario Saccani (Nero), Raul Incerti (Bobi), Vasco Guaitolini (Biavati), Abbo Panisi (Nelson), and Egidio Baraldi (Walter) gathered in a house in Canolo. Surrounded by Nazi and Fascist troops, they defended themselves with grenades and machine gun fire and attempted to escape. Vasco Guaitolini died while running toward a machine gun to silence it, and so did Abbo Panisi while climbing over a hedge. The others managed to escape. The house was eventually set ablaze. The Nazi-Fascists suffered four dead and three wounded.
