Off North Korean waters, the American spy ship USS Pueblo (officially an environmental research vessel) is boarded by North Korean naval vessels, which board and seize the crew and vessel, including encryption devices given to their Soviet ally. The setback, however, will be used as a precedent to justify (politically) the American seizure of the wreckage of the Soviet submarine K-129.
