Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin, a future member of the Apollo 11 crew and the second man on the Moon, was born in New Jersey; his father, Gene Aldrin, had been a student at MIT under Robert Goddard and would receive the title of Commendatore from Mussolini for having organized the logistics of General Italo Balbo’s visit to the World’s Fair in Chicago.
