The location of the International Conference between the likely victors of the war is under discussion. Churchill suggests Malta, Roosevelt (very ill: he will die a few weeks later) suggests Sicily, but Stalin (who never left the USSR) is adamant: it will be held in Yalta. Churchill comments without hesitation: “a health resort renowned above all for typhus and poisonous insects.”
