Mexico City. Trotskyist Julio Antonio Mella is shot dead. He was arm in arm with Tina Modotti, who was spared by the killer. Modotti would be involved in the organization’s first (failed) and second (successful) attempts to kill Trotsky himself in Mexico City in 1940.
