Maximilian Wolf discovers a strange asteroid, moving in the same orbit as Jupiter but 55.5 degrees behind. It is 588 Achilles. It will remain a strange case for years, until the discovery of another, 617 Patroclus, which is instead exactly 55.5 degrees ahead of Jupiter and in the same orbit. These are the first Trojan satellites discovered. There are actually very many of them: from hundreds of thousands to perhaps millions, and they are located at the gravitational stable Lagrange points L4 and L5.
