February 1945

Zgoda, now southwestern Poland, near Świetochłowice. The Poles established a German punishment camp in a labor camp abandoned by Nazi troops. Thousands of local Germans were deported there and forced to work. At its peak, there were 5,048 prisoners. Two-thirds were sent to work in the coal mines every day. Up to 20 people died of starvation each day. The camp was closed in November 1945.
