NASA’s NEAR probe is landing on the Near-Earth asteroid “Eros”, the fifth extraterrestrial body touched by a functioning human probe (the others are the Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter – – others will be added later such as Titan in 2005 and recently several asteroids); it will be composed of a few monolithic megablocks in turn composed of material similar to that of the Moon.
