La Rothiere. The Russian infantry attacks the village with bayonets, without stopping to fire. Then comes the fierce counterattack of Napoleon’s guard. It ends in a draw: the French lose 73 cannons and 5,000 men, the Allies slightly less. But in the first real pitched battle, Napoleon has failed to win in France.
