The Soviet monitoring system detects five Minuteman missiles incoming over the USSR. Red Army officer Stanislav Petrov must decide within minutes whether this is a genuine American nuclear attack. He alerts his superiors. No action is taken. It later turns out that the five missiles were actually reflections off the clouds.
