Cyprus. On an Ottoman galleon departing from the island loaded with slaves, mostly young Venetian noblewomen destined as gifts to the sultan. During the transshipment of explosives, a tremendous explosion occurs, sinking the galleon, the galley, and the caramussale alongside, along with their entire human cargo. Word of the heroic deed of a young Venetian woman spreads throughout the West.
