Northeastern Italy. The Austrians control only three of the four cities of the fortified Quadrilateral, having recently lost Peschiera; Lombardy is in Piedmontese hands, Venetian volunteers are north of the Adige, and the Papal Army has passed through Vicenza, Treviso, and Venice, reaching within sight of the Piave. Finally, Vienna has risen up and escaped the control of the imperial army.
