Kitty and Robert Oppenheimer’s daughter, Katherine, is born. As with her first child, Kitty suffers a psychological crisis and leaves Los Alamos for a while, leaving her daughter with Robert and Pat Sherr, who cares for her. After two months, Pat is astonished when Robert suggests adopting the child because he cannot love her.
