Amadeus Mozart died of inflammatory rheumatic fever at the age of 35; he was buried in a mass grave in the (almost) forgotten St. Marxer Friedhof cemetery. Despite Mozart’s modest funeral, his fame grew significantly in the aftermath. Biographies were written first by Schlichtegroll, Niemetschek, and Nissen, and publishers competed to produce complete editions of his works.
