Scotland. The longest bridge in the world, the Tay Rail Bridge, made of cast iron, collapses during a violent storm. A train carrying 75 passengers falls into the river, killing everyone. The disaster makes it clear that cast iron is unsuitable for these tasks. Improved steels using the Bessemer process will be considered more suitable.
