The Second American War of Independence formally ends with the Treaty of Ghent (in East Flanders, Belgium) between the Americans and the British. The peace terms were partially favorable to Jackson’s Americans thanks to the British abandonment of Louisiana. In reality, the hawkish American administration’s goal was at least the partial annexation of Canada. The War of 1812, or Second American War of Independence, cost the United States 2,260 dead and 4,505 wounded, while the British lost 1,960 dead and 3,679 wounded.
