During the Rape of Nanking, two Japanese officers, Toshaki Mukai and Tsuyoshi Noda, are reported to have agreed to a contest to be the first to cut off 100 heads of Chinese prisoners. Doubts about this event later arose, even though it was indeed described in newspapers of the time.
