The first instance of the mega-trial against the Mafia concludes, with 19 life sentences and prison sentences totaling 2,665 years. The third instance, which upholds almost all the sentences, concludes on January 30, 1992. It is the largest criminal trial ever held in the world. It will be followed by the attacks that lead to the deaths of judges Falcone and Borsellino and the capture of the instigator and boss of the Mafia, Totò Riina, who will die in prison.
