Mary Stilwell, wife of Thomas Alva Edison, died at the young age of 29, of unknown causes. They married on December 25, 1871, when she was only 16, and had known each other for only two months. They had three children: Marion Estelle, Thomas Alva Jr., and William Leslie. It is possible that Mary died of a drug overdose or a brain tumor. Doctors of the time frequently prescribed morphine and other opiates to treat a wide variety of ailments. Edison remarried on February 24, 1886, to 20-year-old Mina Miller, daughter of inventor Lewis Miller, and they had three more children: Madeleine, Charles, and Theodore. Mina died on August 24, 1947, following her husband.
