Caribbean (West Indies). 250 miles west of St. Vincent, the English convoy, escorted by the 64-gun gunboat Ramillies, is attacked by the French. Sixty-one ships fall into French hands. Only three survive. Three thousand prisoners are taken, and the financial damage is enormous (one and a half million pounds at the time).
