Archangel, Russia. Nuclear accident on a platform in the Arctic Sea, during a test of a new nuclear missile by the Russian military. 7 engineers who were working on the new weapon system (which is not revealed) die. For a few hours, a radiation spike of 16 times (2.0mS/h) the normal level (0.12mS/h) is recorded in the nearby port city of Sverodvinsk. The local population is advised to take iodine to saturate the thyroid. The level of radiation and its limited duration make the danger relatively limited. As for the weapon system under test, it could be the 9M730 Burevestnik (Storm Petrel), designated by NATO SSC-X-9 Skyfall, a nuclear-powered cruise missile.
