Israel. The Knesset votes to withdraw from the Gaza-Egypt border and to allow the Egyptian Border Police to be deployed along the demilitarized Egyptian side of the border, reversing its previously stated intention to maintain Israeli control of the border. Israel’s disengagement from the Gaza Strip leads to the unilateral dismantling of all 21 Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli settlers who had lived in those settlements, as well as the military personnel protecting them, are evacuated, resettled, and redeployed elsewhere in Israel.
