Wolf’s Lair. 11:30 a.m. Four days after the heavy bombing of the Peenemünde site, Himmler tells Speer that he can guarantee the safety and secrecy of the V-1 and V-2 programs with forced labor. Speer agrees, and the two programs are moved to an underground sodium sulfate mine in the Harz Mountains, 100 kilometers west of Leipzig, and so deep below ground level that they are completely immune to Allied bombing. The Dora concentration camp is built outside the mine. Eighty percent of all V-1 and V-2 rockets will be produced here, in two paired 3-kilometer tunnels.
