Moscow. Polish General Sikorski, head of the Polish government-in-exile, convinces Stalin to free all Polish prisoners in the Gulags and form the Second Polish Army Corps. 110,000 prisoners will set out on foot from the Gulags, sometimes walking thousands of kilometers, to reach the assembly point. They will then embark on cargo ships in the Caspian Sea, reach Iran, receive training from the British, move first to Palestine and then to Egypt, and finally fight in Italy. Ultimately, they will not be able to return to Sovietized Poland, and almost all will end up in Great Britain, with some in the United States, Italy, and so on.
