Lord Castlereagh, who had signed the Peace of Ghent, committed suicide in the throes of a severe manic-depressive crisis; Lord Castlereagh’s sister was the mother of Robert Fitz-Roy, the captain of Her Majesty’s ship Beagle, which would later welcome Charles Darwin aboard.
