Thomas Alva Edison’s first ship with all-electric lighting: the Columbia. On April 27, Edison boarded the ship with his wife on the East River in New York. There were four 110-volt dynamos. The steamship Columbia, 100 meters from stern to bow, belonged to railroad magnate Henry Villard.
