Dardanelles. ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) troops land at Gallipoli. Despite countless acts of heroism, Her Majesty’s troops are defeated and, after several months, must be evacuated, an operation carried out with incredible efficiency. Winston Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty and the mastermind behind the operation, will be remembered as responsible for the failure and the massacre. The Dardanelles massacre will remain in Australian history as the symbolic birth of the Australian nation. To this day, April 25th is ANZAC Day, a national holiday in Australia.
