April 23, 1564

William Shakespeare is born. It is commonly believed that the great English playwright and poet William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, three days before the date of his baptismal registration in the church archives of Stratford-upon-Avon. However, it is impossible to establish with certainty the day of his birth, nor to prove that the literary and theatrical genius was the Shakespeare born in Stratford. The fact remains, however, that no other play has been analyzed or performed as much as the 38 attributed to him. Works such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and King Lear are known throughout the world and remain relevant today, four centuries after they were composed, as demonstrated by the continuous modern adaptations. Shakespeare died in Stratford on April 23, 1616, three years after retiring from the London stage.
