Milutin Milankovic writes an important scientific book on the ice ages caused by the shift in the Earth’s axis, based on articles he wrote in the 1930s. He delivers the manuscript, which will have considerable, though not immediate, influence to a publishing house in Belgrade, but Yugoslavia is soon afterward occupied by the Germans and the publishing house is destroyed. Part of the work, however, survives and is later published. The first English edition is in 1969: Canon of Insolation of the Earth and its Application to the Problem of the Ice Ages.
