Chemist George Kristiakowsky develops the scientific confidence necessary to establish that it is possible to completely control the development of the TNT explosion that triggers an atomic bomb. It is therefore possible to guarantee the success of the atomic bomb test by using special “lenses” to focus the TNT shock wave on the fissile uranium.
