CSS Virginia sets sail in search of a battle with USS Monitor, but the latter has been ordered to avoid a fight. The Confederates have capitalized on information about the USS Monitor’s design, which they simply read about in an article in Scientific American (!). The Federals, who have now realized the importance of battleships, are building several replicas of the USS Virginia.
