Schio. The Black Brigades arrested Giacomo Bogotto, a partisan from Schio, tortured him, gouged out his eyes, and perhaps buried him alive. His body was exhumed the day after Schio’s liberation, April 30, before the eyes of a shocked and enraged population. In May, news of the Pedescala massacre arrived: 82 innocent civilians killed by retreating Germans. This was the context in which the Schio massacre took place.
