The American probe Pioneer 10, just 20 months after its launch, has already entered Jupiter’s magnetosphere, a planet it will fly by two weeks later. It took 500 photographs and absorbed 10,000 times more radiation than in Earth orbit. It is the first human-made object to permanently leave the Solar System.
