The Volksjager He-162, designed by Heinrich Heinkel, flies for the first time, just three months after receiving the specifications directly from Hitler. The flight is a disaster, and the aircraft crashes to the ground in the presence of the Führer. The design is modified and it flies again on December 16th, this time successfully, but the war ends before series production can make a difference, and due to a chronic lack of fuel to keep them flying.
