The German Foreign Office was not convinced of Enigma’s security and used “one-time pad” ciphers to encrypt the highest-level traffic, a system known as GEE. However, GEE did not contain truly random numbers because it was machine-generated. American cryptographers leveraged this to decrypt GEE.
