In the Netherlands, the orange carrot variety was selected through crossbreeding, created to celebrate the Dutch Royal House of Orange. In the following decades, the Dutch became the leading producers and traders of carrots. Almost all the varieties on the market today derive from four Dutch orange varieties: Early Half Long, Late Half Long, Scarlet, and Long Orange.
