Frederick and his army of several thousand Teutonic Knights set fire to and destroyed the Milanese countryside, cutting off supplies to Milan. But the Milanese, thanks to the ingenuity of Master Guintelmo, produced a hundred armored chariots, triangular in shape, with sickle blades mounted on the sides. The operation was a complete success: Frederick abandoned the field, retreating to Pavia.
