Ptolemy founded the Great Library of Alexandria (600,000 texts); upon entering the city, visitors had their books confiscated, copied, the original given to the Library and the copy given to the visitor; thanks to this mechanism, many copies of ancient texts are still found throughout the world despite the destruction of the original at the Library of Alexandria.
