Italy. In a cave in Circeo, a pack of hyenas is carrying the remains of Neanderthals. In May 2021, the remains of nine Neanderthals, including a teenager and a woman, will be discovered in the cave, which was used as a den by packs of hyenas. There are also remains of enormous animals such as cave bears, cave lions, and giant deer. The cave was inhabited 100,000 to 60,000 years ago, when the entrance collapsed. It was then rediscovered by chance in 1939, when the first Neanderthal remains were found. Both the remains found in 1939 and the current ones contain skulls opened in the same way. The current finds reveal the use of techniques unknown at the time of the original discovery.
