Eastern slopes of the Central Ural Mountains. The “Great Idol” is erected: a 5-meter-high totem pole decorated with elaborate carvings. It is recovered from a peat bog on Lake Sigirskoye. We know very little about the social and political systems of these prehistoric communities, but these examples reveal unexpectedly complex realities.
