Following the end of the Wurz glaciation, the waters of the Mediterranean rose to the point of overcoming the natural barrier of the Bosphorus and flowing into the freshwater lake represented by the Black Sea basin; the cascade of water continued for about a century and perhaps gave rise to the myth of the Great Flood.
