Comet Hale-Bopp passes close to Earth. It will pass again in 1997 AD (I saw it), then in 4385 AD. In 2215 BC, its passage may have been noted and recorded by the Egyptians in the Pepi Pyramid at Saqqara, built during that period. It contains a reference to the “star nhh,” meaning “long-haired star,” which would accompany the pharaoh across the sky.
