Mesopotamia. A clay cuneiform tablet dated to the 28th day of the 10th month of the 41st year of the reign of King Shulgi of Ur represents one of the oldest written documents. It records the monthly deliveries of sheep and goats. At the end, the total is 896 animals, but the correct figure is 898, so this is an error that has been preserved for posterity.
