Global Foundries (also financed with capital from the Persian Gulf) cancels its program to develop EUV (Extreme Ultra Violet) technology, which enables the fabrication of chips using 7nm technology. At this point, only TSMC (Taiwan), Samsung (South Korea), and Intel (USA) remain on the global stage. Building cutting-edge silicon foundries has become too expensive for all but a very few. Even the “deep pockets” of the Persian Gulf royal families aren’t deep enough.
