Apple and Google, for the first time, are spending more on lawsuits and patent payments than on research and development. The history of electronics has always oscillated between two development models: the one that made the internet successful, for example, based on the sharing of information and knowledge and unprotected collaborative development; or the one that made the hardware manufacturers successful, based on patents and intellectual property protection.
