The percentage of GDP spent on social welfare is still growing steadily. It is around 30% for countries like France and Italy, and around 20% for Australia, Canada, the USA, and the UK. In the 1970s, the figures were roughly halved for each country. At the beginning of the 20th century, they were practically zero.
